What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Government Compliance & Accountability

Imagine learnings software is used through many K-12 schools as tool to successfully help children to accelerate their ability to read and learn. Because many of the schools are government funded, the government came out with mandates to enforce accountability for all tools in use by the school, district, or state to have reporting showing their effectiveness in the classroom. Imaginelearning didn't have reports within their software and much of the data had to be manually prepared for audits and teacher accountability.

We had to figure out how to leverage the data we had and create an interface that provided flexibility and insight into each of the kids learnings and how the program was being of value.

Product Designer & Scrum Master

The Product Manager and I lead a team of six people in figuring out what we were going to design and build to help teachers and administrators tell a story to other administrators and parents of children.

Research & Discovery

To get an idea of how the competition was doing their reports, I looked into sources like i-Ready, myLexia and Achieve3000.  I spoke with our field representatives - a group of people who work closely with the clients each day - to gain some insight into how we can improve our software to help teachers and admins more effectively compile data and make informed decisions.

I also sat down with several users to confirm what our field representatives were telling us, and also to get further insight into how these reports will help our users.

Mapping It Out

After meeting with the collaborating teams, we determined the scope and the resources required to complete this project. Below I mapped out the status of each piece of the project for each type of audience: District Admin, School Admin, Groups a.ka. Classes (overseen by Teachers), and Individual Students. This map was ever evolving as we received feedback. Not only did this help us see what was actively being worked on but had been released and how all components were working together.

Sketching & Prototyping

With sketching and white boarding, I mapped out the dashboard where all assessments and summaries would go, helping us identify patterns and crossovers, and to maintain consistency.

The following prototypes show the vision and flow of the project, laying the ground work for what we were planning to do next.

Testing

Without a beta environment or testing platform, I sent out early access links to some of our field reps to walk through the process and provide us with feedback.

I also used Pendo to get data back on what was working and what wasn’t.  From the data we received, we began to modify the next sprint to meet the most sought-after needs.

Successes

My team and I went from no understanding of reports to producing our MVP within a three month period.

We heard back from several users on how this was going to save them several hours a week in creating reports to show in meetings with parents and school administrators.

Failures

Early on we identified some problem areas that had the potential of messing with reported numbers. Although we discussed the issue with the department we failed to see the affect it would have on numbers rolling up into the school and district levels.

Conclusion

Overall our efforts were a huge success. We not only worked great as a team but we were able to put out a project that was incredibly useful for teachers and administration. With the new data and reports we provided, teachers could continue in helping support their students learning both in the classroom and through the Imagine Learning platform.
