Hard Times Breaking Me Down

The weather outside is pretty depressing so I figured I would write a depressing post.

Have you ever seen Fun with Dick and Jane? I saw that the other day and it scared me more than made me laugh.  The world is crumbling piece by piece and there is little anyone can do to stop it. A lot of people  blame the government and big business for our downfall but for those of you who blame all our problems on them, please look at your situation and then tell me whose fault it is. Now I am not saying that the government is guiltless in their mismanagement of everything, I am just saying that they have an addiction that we as a people keep feeding and saying it’s their fault for having the addiction.

How can we expect America to “change” if those who reside within can’t, or shall I say won’t do the same thing that they are asking of their country. How many of us have a credit card we use to pay off another credit card? Have you ever gotten into more debt by getting out of it? It is hard to free ones self from damaging debt when the country shows the world that debt is part of life and that without debt there would be no United States of America!

What got me on this topic you may wonder. Well I have been looking for a job for a couple of weeks now and applied to several that I both qualify for and those that I don’t, hoping that I can get lucky and pick it up quick. So far I have talked with two companies both of which came about from people I know which supports the saying “It’s not what you know it’s who you know”. The only other problem that I face is that I don’t know how to do what they want my to do. I am a quick learner and am willing to learn what ever I need to do to do the job, but so few believe it. So as of April 31st I will be officially unemployed relying solely upon Beth and her paychecks to help push us through. Luckily we have enough to pay off our apartment lease but that will require us to eliminate both our savings and checking accounts. Oh boy! The best part is that we also have car loans, credit card loans, and school loans lurking in the shadows.  grrrr I am sorry for my venting but &@#$%#!

One last thing that I am pretty ticked about. Why in the crap am I getting a “BS” degree if no one values it? Those with it are being laid off left and right because they make too much. So let me get this straight. We go to, pay, and get into DEBT for school to get a degree that not many look at except for major companies who are now laying off those with the degree because they make too much which then leaves them to look for a Walmart greeter position or a night shift at the nearest Taco Bell making minimum wage!

Why is everything so screwed up!

Stupidity Sweeping The Nation!

Everyday of my life I am surrounded with people who have been affected by this unfortunate disease that seems to be spreading throughout the nation at a rapid rate of speed. For a while there I had thought that like a cold or the 24 hour flu, the stupidity virus would simply go away! I am sure you must know what I mean. If you don’t here are a few examples to help you understand.

Example 1:

For the last month or so I have been working on campus in the P.E department folding laundry, renting out equipment, and monitoring to make sure that only those wearing the Issue room t-shirts are using the facilities. One of the biggest problems we have here are students working out and not checking in and wearing the issue room T-shirts. It is my job to politely inform those not wearing the shirts to check in and wear the shirts we provide them. A simple and easy task wouldn’t you say? Check in, wear the free shirt, and don’t get hassled. Apparently for some people when I ask them to wear a shirt they feel as if I had just threatened to kill their family. It seems to me that these people can’t comprehend the fact that the facility is free for them to use as long as you follow the rules in place and if they feel that strongly about not wearing a shirt then they are welcome to find somewhere else to workout where they might feel more comfortable. Makes sense to me!

Example 2:

When students are finished working out they bring their shirts back and throw them in 1 of 3 yellow bins to be washed. When the bins reached about half full we then load them into the washer to wash them. One instance this last week took me a minute to try and understand how this virus could do so much damage to any particular person. In order to load the washer with t shirts you move the bin from one side of the room to the other leaving an empty spot right next to another bin. As I was loading the washer I glanced over to see a shirt lying on the ground where I just moved the bin. Giving the world to much credit I thought to myself maybe some one just missed while aiming for the bin right next to it, then as my eyes glanced upward I saw another student look at the floor and purposely then he threw his shirt on top of the other one lying on the ground. Apparently I was not the only one to see the effects of stupidity in action. The stupidity caught the attention of another one of my co-workers. She looks at me and then we both look at the student who had thrown the shirt. wow!

Poor soul. He is probably going to have to deal with the effects of stupidity throughout his entire life.

This disease has shown its ugly head throughout the world. You probably know so many of these people that you can’t even begin to count. No wonder the fail blog exists.

This disease is everywhere! Among college professors, students, clients, neighbors, and much more!

I have so many examples that it would be impossible to list them all.

I would like to hear about your experiences witnessing the disease in action. So please feel free to comment about those in your life that are suffering from stupidity.

Hopefully one day we can find a cure but for now we must fight against the disease and pray that it is not contagious.

Something More

Have you ever sat down and said to your self “Is this it?” Life can be so demanding at times and seem unfair almost all the times. Don’t get me wrong, I love my wife and I love my family but there needs to be something more! Many say “you should be happy with what you have.” but those who say that or those who follow that counsel don’t realize that if you stay happy with what you have you remain motionless. Your not moving backwards but you sure aren’t moving forward.

Maybe I am different and maybe most of the world is happy with their life and that satisfies their needs. For me, I believe you should be grateful for everything you have but you should never be completely satisfied or happy with it. I keep remembering a line from a popular TV show called heroes. Someone says something to the affect - Have you ever felt destined for something more? that you are meant to be something greater than what you are? - I constantly think that of my life. After many hours of trying to determine my super power I have come to the conclusion I don’t have one. Greatness can come in so many forms it just depends on what you are looking for. For example: So many in Hollywood have had money, fortune, and fame placed upon them with little to no effort on their part where some had to bust their buts to get there. Now whether or not these people actually achieved greatness is subject to your opinion.

Well I know I can’t just sit on my butt waiting for greatness to come knocking so I need to work hard and bust my but to get there. So now that I am determined to reach the top I must find my ladder to climb. . . Where is my ladder? What is my ladder? This here lies the problem I am having. Well Miles you are just 23 you have your whole life to get there blah blah blah. One Thing you should know about me is I am very impatient! I see those around me getting successful and while I am struggling to begin! I look at those who have gone before me and are ..let’s say 45 years old. They have money, successful careers, families of their own, and a nice big place to call home. I see all of that and find out it took them 45 years to get there. Well I want to get there at age 35. I have the drive and determination but no plans to follow or ideas to produce. It’s all a big puzzle with round pieces and no picture.

So if you are reading this and are a multimillionaire please contact me and teach me the ropes.
